Nostalgic for some Cuban TV programming? Look no further than Hialeah's L & J Video on 9th Street. The video rental store offers dozens of reruns of Cuban television shows, cartoons and movies. I met a store employee, Tamara Saavedra, while reporting the story on Cubans who have come to South Florida since 2000. More Cubans have come to the area in the last 6 years than during the entire Mariel Boatlift.
At L & J, as in a few other video stores in Little Havana and elsewhere, you can check out the police series, Operacion Coraje, produced in Cuba and run on state TV. Or the communist cartoons of Elpidio Valdes. New arrivals flock to the store to rent out the videos, hoping for a little nostalgic comfort in their new country. People who rent the videos are not necessarily supporters of the Cuban government. It's just that nothing else on video reminds them so much of home. Saavedra, 31, has a 15-month-old daughter and lives in Hialeah with her husband. She says her communist sister, a musician, is happy in Cuba because they've sent her around the world to perform. But she left because she couldn't stand the poverty, the lies and the oppression. Photo of Saavedra, 31, above.
Cuban videos for rent:

Article states: But she left because she couldn't stand the poverty, the lies and the oppression.
Lies, poverty, oppression, and corruption? Sounds like she is describing life in Cuban-American run Miami!!

Oscar ,
I think that publishing articles like this one what you are trying to do is deviate of the main issue, to topple Castro.
You are also trying to split the cuban Exiles .. Oscar stop the bloodshed and controversy and Focus your articles more in the liberation of Cuba

YUP, now that Oscar has the premiere Cuban-American blog in the world. Cuban right-wing militant, radicals like PeeWee, and Manual the lying communist want to stumble in, and start dictating that only extremist, radical, right wing articles should be posted. Where were you two when it was only my voice posting?
For the last time to the right wing extremist militant Cuban exile piglets. STOP trying to push Oscar around. His unique formula has proven very successful, in the most repressive free speech citiy in America. So i dont think he needs your militant "exile" advice. Hell, PeeWee and Manuel the lying communist are not even Americans in the first place, they are "exiles," militant and radical ones at that.
There are many far right wing, extremist, pro-conservative bigoted, Cuban-American sites to select from. For instance why dont you read babalogue. Yes, yes why dont you go to babologue, and yell at Val Prieto for not being focused. He posted nearly 10 articles in a row about the meaningless Miami Heat. In fact most right wing Cuban-American sites posted many articles about the silly Heat victory. Why arent you in there hassling them.
The reason why i suspect you wont, is because you are a babologue zealout censurers, who is jealous of the success of Oscar's open dialogue blog. You want to drive down Oscar's blog. You want his blog to be a clone of your babologue, so that there is strict uniformity in the Cuban blogisphere. Next thing you know, you will call the differences of articles communist. That is surely next isnt? If all else fails call it communist.
Finally, it is not an article, you dumbass right wing Cuban exile cowardly piglet!! It is an advertisement for a friendly face that Oscar met while reporting. What is so wrong with Oscar helping a new Cuban-American business flourish? Here Oscar is assisting a fellow Cuban American, who is trying to realize the American dream. And you want to slam on him. And force him to substitute "another" radical, militant article, that tells how horrible Fidel is. Yes, we all know that already. Oscar, has posted countless articles about that. So Oscar wants to take a moment to spotlight a Cuban-American business.
Well, Oscar i say good for you. There is nothing wrong with trying to assist one of your Cuban-American brother or sister, who is attempting to make a better life for her and her community. Dont listen to the radicals, militant exiles who want to force certain articles that they want. I probably i posted over 1000 post, and never once have i demanded, bitched, cried, or whined about your content. Its your blog, and it will be what a free Cuba turns to when communism dies. So continue to listen to your conscious and heart, and not said militant extremist. The same extremists that were pouting only a couple of months ago, who have proven to be utter failures the last 50 years.
NUFF SAID,
BIG JOHN

Those metrics on alexa are all the blogs.herald.com blogs. He could put up a good old fashioned site meter just like everyone else. But I don't think there's any interest in posting the true traffic to this blog. It would just be one long list with the same 4 or 5 IP addresses.

Did you read Ana Menedez's column this morning?

A.D.T.
Go read Ana's ruthless, hard hitting column in today's paper. She sent shockwaves throughout liberal West Ave.
I need to talk to a liberal-minded Cuban-American about her column. Hurry up A.D.T. Where A.T. run off to?

Congratulations are in order for all the xenophobes in Congress. Although you did not succeed in passing your so-called immigration "reform," you have managed to bring Mexico to the brink of civil war. Your non-stop barrage of anti-Mexican rhetoric and fastastical plans to re-create the Berlin wall along the U.S.-Mexican border has deprived the pro-American candidate in Mexico's presidential election of a clear plurality and left the outcome in doubt. Even if the government candidate manages to squeak by with the help of absentee ballots from the U.S., it is doubtful that his socialist opponents will accept the results. You had better build that wall fast or you'll have millions of Mexican refugees streaming across the border in a matter of days.
As you sow so shall you reap.

When you say xenopobes, you mean the republicans, right? Yes, the republican bigots have sent horrific events in motion. It will take 10 years to realize what they have done.

Ana is correct, the cure for communism or other totalitarian governments is more speech, more choices, not less..........
Long live the ACLU!!!!!!!!!!

Blog Blitz coming
Oscar , I really do not see a great amount of valuable posts as you promised. We need more posts denouncing the 50 years of tyranny. Talk about Fariñas more please. Post about the acts of repudiation more , please, tack about the lack of housing, food and hope of the cuban people. Talk about Cuba building a Hotel in China , the Shanghai Xintian Hotel while people live in dilapitated houses in Cuba. etc.

There are a few Democratic xenophobes in Congress; but, yes, the majority are Republicans.
I have said before that I am not a Republican and have no problem criticizing them when they are wrong, as they have been, monumentally, on this issue.
