From Washington to Tally Via Miami

Jose Fuentes is on his way to Tallahassee to become the media relations director for the incoming speaker of the House, Marco Rubio. Fuentes, like Rubio, is a Cuban-American from Miami. He brings almost a decade of Washington experience to the job, having worked three years in the White House planning events for Vice President Dick Cheney, and later working as a spokesman for the U.S. Agency for International Development. After a brief stint in Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez’s administration, where he led the intergovernmental team, Fuentes decided to take the gig with Rubio, who he sees as a rising star in Florida politics. Fuentes, 31, is a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School.

WHEREAS Gilda Cabrera Oliveros is presently serving as mayor for the City of Hialeah Gardens, Dade County, Florida, and

WHEREAS on or about December 5, 1999, Gilda Cabrera Oliveros was arrested for two counts of solicitation to commit first degree murder, in violation of Section 782.04(1), Florida Statutes; filing false, fraudulent insurance claims, in violation of Section 817.234(1), Florida Statutes; two counts of votes/cast fraud, in violation of Section 104.041, Florida Statutes; and election code/false swearing to an oath, in violation of Section 104.011, Florida Statutes, and

WHEREAS Article IV, Section 7 of the Florida Constitution and Section 112.51, Florida Statutes, authorize the Governor to suspend a mayor for malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform his/her official duties, or commission of a felony, and

WHEREAS it is in the best interest of the residents of the City of Hialeah Gardens, Dade County and the citizens of the State of Florida that Gilda Cabrera Oliveros be immediately suspended from the public office she now holds, upon the grounds hereinafter set forth.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JEB BUSH, Governor of Florida, pursuant to the Constitution and the laws of the State of Florida, do hereby find, determine, and for the purposes of Article IV, Section 7, 7(a), Florida Constitution and Section 112.51, Florida Statutes, allege as follows:

A. Gilda Cabrera Oliveros is, and at all times material hereto was, the mayor for the City of Hialeah Gardens, Dade County, Florida.

B. The office of mayor of the City of Hialeah Garden, Dade County, Florida, is within the purview of the suspension powers of the Governor, pursuant to Article IV, Section 7 (a), Florida Constitution and Section 112.51, Florida Statutes.

C. It is in the best interest of the residents of the City of Hialeah Gardens, Dade County, Florida, and the citizens of the State of Florida, that Gilda Cabrera Oliveros be immediately suspended from the public office she now holds, until further notice.

Nonee, so you doubt that this administration is the worst in recent history? I think "ignorant" could apply in your case or, perhaps, that blindness that seems to pervade the Miami area.

Today's Republican Party seems to excel at doing the wrong thing, nationally and internationally. The Demo's need to wake up.

Both parties need to wake up and get back in touch with reality. They have lived in ivory towers too long and enjoyed the privileges that hard-working Americans have afforded them for far too many years.

No administration, past or present, is without their errors, some more egregious than others, often dictated by the times. I can guarantee you Jeremiah Gore would have effed things up one way or another, too.

These are highstakes times we live in, and the margin for error is razor-thin, sometimes beyond any human's ability to get it right... maybe the machines should take over after all....
